The Liberal Party of Canada (Lib) is a centrist, moderate party, and regularly wins elections. It runs candidates nationwide, and does fairly well across the country, except for the conservative West. It is commonly referred to as "Canada's Natural Governing Party". They have held a majority government since 1980. The Progressive Conservative Party (PC) is more conservative than the Liberal Party, but is still fairly moderate in the context of the other parties. The PCs regularly win elections, and run candidates nationwide, doing fairly well from coast to coast, but are weak in major urban centres. They have been the Official Opposition since 1980. The New Democratic Party (NDP) are Canada's leftist party, and have numerous links to organized labour. They tend to do best in urban centres and the rural West. They run candidates nationally, though they generally win seats only in the West and Ontario. |
